Science Of The Ancients: The Great Pyramid Of Giza
Rising up like alien structures across the dry deserts of the Sahara sits a mammoth structure that has withstood the test of time. Made of over 2,3000,000 blocks of stone, some weighing as much as nine tons, the pyramids of Giza are the sole remains of a powerful dynasty that existed 5,000 years ago. While we may build higher and bigger steel skyscrapers across the world today to show off our growing wealth and expanding technology, the Great Pyramid of Giza will always be regarded as the architectural wonder of all time.
Why is that so' Take the Petronas Towers for example. The towers are Malaysia’s pride and joy. It took 37 months of sheer labour with almost 4,000 workers working in three shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a weak to construct.
In comparison, the Great Pyramid of Giza took 10,000 workers as well as support and combined will of the 1,6000,000 people that made up the nation of Egypt then, over 20 years to build.
What makes the construction of the monument even more inspiring is the little technology they had then. You have to understand they didn’t have electricity so they couldn’t use computers to make accurate models of their construction on.
Nor did they have electric saws or drills to chisel stone blocks from huge rocks. And they sure hadn’t invented engines yet so they didn’t have cranes to transport more than two million of these blocks from the stone quarries to the construction site.
So how then did they ever manage to build such a magnificent structure that would, when they were erected in 2560BC, be the tallest buildings in the world for the next 5,000 years'
You’d often hear of the many theories people have when it came to how the ancient civilization built the pyramids. One theory is that it was the aliens that did it!
They came down in their space ships, cut the stones with their laser beams and used their tractor beam to put them neatly into place. Another theory is that Egypt bought over 300,000 slaves and forced them to build the pyramids, not caring if they survived the heat or the strenuous work. Yet, the most likely answer is that the ancient Egyptians simply used their brains to think up inventions and simple techniques to help them along.
Imaging how a primitive race with no modern machines or technology build a monument that has lasted, and will continue to endure, over five millennia, you’d wonder what the human race can’t accomplish if we put our minds and hearts to it.
