Scrapbooking = Bank Breaking

Okay so we’ve all been there. You run out to you
favorite craft store planning to pick up just a
few little things to put the finishing touches on
your project and then BAM! The next thing you
know your bank account has taken a shocking hit
while you walk out with a bag perfectly sized for
a greeting card.

I know, I’ve been there, and it’s tragic. But who
can resist all those wonderful little do dads
whether they are actually needed or not. Well
here are a few tips to keep your favorite hobby
from putting you in the poor house.

1. Go Back to the Basics.

Some of the best techniques, such as sewing and
torn edges, are often forgotten because they are
so deceptively simple. These easy embellishments
can quickly add class to a page without adding
cost.

2. Get Organized.

How many times have you cleaned out an
overflowing box or bag to find buried treasure'
By forcing yourself to keep organized you will
save money through not having to buy things you
already own.

3. Raid the Junk Drawer.

There is a wealth of treasure forgotten in the
bottom of drawers. From ribbons to buttons, tape
to stickers, you never know what you could find
until you look.

4. Use your Environment.

Straight lines and stencils are everywhere! The
bottom of a glass is a perfect circle.

5. Homemade Treasure.

Your child’s masterpiece can brighten your day
anytime. Incorporate it into your work and enjoy
it forever.

Now if there is a place to splurge I would say go
for tools. Buying quality tools the first time
may be a bit of an investment but will save you
money in the long run. You will waste less of
your supplies from tool malfunction and won’t
have to replace them as often.

These tips can not only save you money, but often
time as well. The most important tip however, is
to be creative. Find new ways to do simple things
and save your money for those treasures you
simply have to have.
